Fiano has been cultivated for over 2,000 years and was once known as Vitis apiana, or “vine of the bees,” due to its sweet, alluring aroma. The name “Greco” is more straightforward, clearly pointing to its Greek origins.
Another notable light-skinned grape from the region is Falanghina, which is the foundation of wines like Falerno del Massico and Galluccio. Its honeyed notes were so admired that the ancient writer and philosopher Pliny the Elder coined the famous phrase in vino veritas — in wine, there is truth.
